Japanese kokutan ebony 108 beads bracelet

Kokutan Ebony 108 Beads Bracelet

Kyoto Asahiya
$170.00
1 left

A Japanese kokutan ebony bracelet of 108 beads, handmade in Kyoto and strung on silk elastic cord. Designed as a looser fit, it wraps three or four times around the wrist.

Kyoto is famous for making Buddhist prayer beads (juzu or nenju), and Kyoto Asahiya handmakes these bracelets following that long tradition. Ebony is a dense black-brown hardwood from the genus Diospyros, which also includes persimmons; dense enough to sink in water, it's finely textured and polishes to a very smooth finish, making it valued as an ornamental wood.
