Kyoto is famous for making Buddhist prayer beads (juzu or nenju), and Kyoto Asahiya handmakes these bracelets following that long tradition. Lignum vitae, Latin for "tree of life" or "wood of life", was named for its wide range of medicinal uses; one of the heaviest and hardest woods, it deepens towards green over time. Jadeite is harder and rarer than other jade, long valued in China and traditionally said to bring strength and longevity, guard against negative energy and, in feng shui, encourage prosperity.
