A compact, matte charcoal Japanese ceramic salt pot with a lid, made to sit on your kitchen counter and hold about 190ml of salt or sugar.
This ceramic salt pot is formed from porous Shigaraki clay with an unglazed interior, which lets the clay gently absorb moisture from the salt. It continues the old practice of storing salt, grains and tea leaves in pottery. Only the outside is finished, with a thin matte charcoal glaze that leaves the clay's texture visible.
Made by Marui Seito, a third-generation Shigaraki-yaki potter. Shigaraki is one of Japan's six ancient kilns, with a roughly 1,260-year history of ceramic craft. Each pot is handmade, so shape and finish vary slightly from piece to piece.

Hechimon is a collection of Japanese ceramics by a third-generation Shigaraki-yaki maker, Marui Seito. This name translates as “strange things” or “unusual things”. The ceramic collection embraces varying expressions from the vessels themselves. Like holding their own personalities due to materials used, kiln firings, and the craftsman hand. All of these processes and relationships slightly shift each piece – no two pieces will be identical in nature.
