Kyoto is famous for making Buddhist prayer beads (juzu or nenju), and Kyoto Asahiya handmakes these bracelets following that long tradition. Kitayama cedar has been produced since the Muromachi period, a history of around 600 years, sourced from Kyoto's famous Kitayama cedar mountains in Kita ward; its straight-grained, fragrant wood has long been prized in Japanese culture.
