Product Description

Kontex Towels have been making towels using century old techniques since their founding in 1934. Their towels are crafted in the famous Imabari towel region of Japan. Each Japanese towel is respectively woven on traditional low-speed looms using high quality threads, and washed with fresh spring water that Mt. Ishizuchi provides from melted snow. As a result their range of towels are incredibly absorbent, fast drying, durable, and environmentally friendly – an ideal addition to your bathroom or kitchen.

The Tierra Towel is a simple heathered handkerchief size towel made from a combination of organic cotton and recycled cotton, which has been reclaimed from cotton remnants. Both colours have a soft natural feel, and are woven with a single-sided pile. Although it is thin, the yarn is thick, so it has good absorbency while being light weight. No ironing required. Easily folds into four to fit inside your pocket.

It comes carefully placed inside a recycled paper origami style packaging. When unfolded, the process of making the towel is explained.

Meet the Maker: Kontex

Established in 1934 in the famous towel-making capital of Imabari, Japan, Kontex has spent nearly a century perfecting the art of the Japanese towel. While modern manufacturing prioritizes speed, Kontex remains dedicated to a slow-weaving process. By using traditional low-speed shuttle looms, they avoid the high-tension stress of modern machines, resulting in a fabric that is exceptionally soft, durable, and highly absorbent.
