A lidded sushi rice chest which has been handcrafted in Japan using Kiso Sawara Cypress wood following traditional techniques. Sawara cypress is highly resistant to water making it ideal to use in moist environments and perfect for kitchen use. This type of wooden lidded chest is traditionally used to store rice after it has been cooked and before it is served. It helps remove any excess heat and steam, whilst making the rice extra tasty. It can also be used for serving chirashi sushi.
Available in two sizes, 15cm and 18cm.

15cm: 15 x H11cm / Holds approximately 2 cups of rice
18cm: 18 x H13cm / Holds approximately 3 cups of rice
It is natural for wood resin to appear on the surface of the Cypress wood. This resin is what also imparts a fresh cypress scent. If you are concerned about the stickiness, it can be wiped off with rubbing alcohol.
Care: Fill with water after use and use a soft brush to remove excess rice. Do not soak for prolonged periods. Dry after washing with a soft tea towel. Store in a dry area out of direct sunlight.
