Nankei Pottery: Futamono Anzu — Sand.
An organic vessel for quiet rituals and hidden treasures.
The Futamono Anzu in Sand is a testament to the beauty of natural forms. While "Futamono" indicates its lidded design, "Anzu" takes its name from the Apricot, echoing the fruit’s soft, rounded curves and upright silhouette. Crafted in the historic kilns of Yokkaichi, this vessel is a masterclass in the tactile, unglazed aesthetic of Banko-yaki.
Finished in Nankei’s signature Suna-neri (sand-toned) clay, this piece is fully unglazed inside and out. It offers a grounded, organic presence that feels less like a manufactured object and more like a stone gathered from a quiet shoreline.
The Anzu Form: Inspired by the gentle proportions of an apricot, the Anzu shape offers a slightly more vertical profile than the Teppatsu. It is elegant and architectural, designed to fit comfortably in the hand during daily rituals.
A Natural Incense Burner: The heat-resistant properties of iron-rich Banko-yaki clay make this an exceptional burner for stick incense. By filling the bowl with white incense ash, you can stand your sticks upright in the traditional manner. The lid allows you to keep the ash contained and your space tidy when the ritual is over.
Tactile Suna-neri Clay: The "Sand" clay is celebrated for its raw, granular texture. Left entirely unglazed, it provides a non-slip, matte finish that is deeply satisfying to the touch. This "living" material will darken and develop a unique character over years of handling.
Breathable Utility: Because it is unglazed and porous, the clay naturally regulates moisture. This makes it a perfect vessel for storing salt (keeping it dry and free of clumps) or protecting small portions of premium tea leaves and dried botanicals.
