The One-Off & Limited Pieces collection celebrates creativity, spontaneity, and individuality, and upholds values of sustainability and minimal waste. Smaller quantities of materials (such as leftover yarns) are used to bring these special pieces to life.
A one-off wall hanging, entirely handwoven from a combination of natural linen and sumi ink. This weaving comes stretched inside a black floating frame, ready to hang.
Suiboku-ga, also called Sumi-e, Japanese monochrome ink painting, a technique first developed in China during the Sung dynasty (960–1274) and later taken to Japan by Zen Buddhist monks in the mid-14th century. Sumi ink used in these ink paintings is made from the soot of pine branches, creating a deep black coloured ink. Other than ink painting, sumi ink also has a history in Japan as a natural dye for textiles.
To create subtle patterns in this weaving linen warp threads have been painted with sumi ink – allowing the ink to be woven into the cloth thread by thread.
