Traditional handmade Japanese candles by Takazawa Candle, made from natural haze (sumac) wax. They burn with a tall, intense flame, brighter than most modern paraffin candles, thanks to a wick of dried reed wrapped around a washi paper cylinder.
Takazawa Candle was established in 1892 and is one of the oldest candle makers in Japan, using techniques that haven't changed since the 16th century. Made from plant-based materials, the candles give off less soot and smoke, and each comes in a soft natural colour such as off-white, muted grey or muted ochre.
