Smoked Deep Bamboo Colander Bowl - X-Large

Smoked Deep Bamboo Colander Bowl - X-Large

Matsunoya

An extra-large smoked bamboo colander bowl, handwoven by skilled artisans in Vietnam. Its generous size suits bigger harvests: collecting and carrying produce from the garden, washing bulky vegetables, sun-drying, or serving as a large fruit basket.

The bamboo is smoked in earthen kilns over straw and sawdust, a traditional technique passed down through generations. Smoking dries the bamboo thoroughly, making it lighter yet stronger and naturally resistant to mould and insects without harsh chemicals, and gives it a rich dark brown tone that ages gracefully.

Matsunoya

Matsunoya was founded in 1945, and is a dealer of various household items, or aramono made from natural materials. This term is rarely used in modern times, but it refers to objects such as brooms, dustpans, and kitchen tools – simple objects for daily life found in most traditional Japanese homes. Matsunoya works closely with Japanese artisans, travelling to their local studios and farms, as well as producing their own line of objects with small manufacturers, and working with artisans overseas.
