A large, heavyweight Japanese plate in a traditional off-white kohiki glaze, handcrafted in Japan's Mino ware tradition. At around 26 cm across, it's perfect for serving main dishes, with a zigzag pattern hand scored around the rim.

The kohiki glaze is poured over a light clay body and kiln fired, leaving small flecks across the surface. Hyosankama is a Mino ware pottery in Gifu Prefecture, one of Japan's most varied pottery traditions, with over 15 styles designated as traditional crafts.

Hyosankama

The Hyosankama kiln has a long tradition of pottery production within Japan. When Yozaemon, the fourth generation of the Hyosankama kiln, presented vessels to Nobunaga Oda, he was praised for his technique; and when presented to Oda Nobunaga he was praised for his technique and given a red seal and the family name of "Hashiba" to authorise the production of pottery.
