Nankei Pottery: Futamono Teppatsu — Sand (Suna-neri)
An organic sanctuary for ritual and rest.
The Futamono Teppatsu in Sand is a tactile tribute to the quiet landscapes of Japan. "Futamono" refers to its lidded design, while "Teppatsu" honours the traditional iron alms bowls carried by monks for centuries. Reimagined in Nankei Pottery’s signature Suna-neri (sand-toned) clay, this vessel is a masterclass in functional Zen.
Fully unglazed inside and out, it features a raw, grainy texture that feels like a stone smoothed by a mountain stream. It is a grounding object designed to hold your most intentional items, from kitchen staples to sacred incense.
The Teppatsu Form: The bowl’s inward-curving rim was originally designed to keep a monk’s offerings secure. Here, that same silhouette creates a seamless, bulbous form that fits perfectly in the palm of your hand, providing a sense of containment and peace.
A Dedicated Incense Vessel: The heat-resistant properties of Banko-yaki clay make this an ideal burner. By filling the deep bowl with white incense ash, you create a safe, traditional base for standing incense sticks. When your ritual is complete, the lid hides the spent ash, keeping your space looking pristine.
Raw Suna-neri Texture: Unlike mass-produced glazed jars, this vessel is entirely raw. The "Sand" finish is celebrated for its organic, non-slip grip and neutral, earthy tone that complements any minimalist or wabi-sabi interior.
Breathable & Dry Storage: Because the clay is porous and unglazed, it naturally regulates moisture. This makes it a superior vessel for storing high-quality salt (preventing clumping) or protecting small amounts of loose-leaf tea.
