Product Description
Each piece is carefully crafted by artisans in Aizu Wakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture, famous for its historical stage and lacquerware production. Lacquerware made of natural wood has a longer history than ceramics. The main feature of lacquerware made of natural wood is that it is light and thin, but does not easily transfer heat to the hand. The natural wood for the wood base is made from carefully selected sen from Hokkaido, grown in the severe cold.
The shape is a smooth with elegant curves that fits comfortably in the hand. The shape of the bowl is a feather warp that spreads outward to make it easy to drink soup, with a moderately thin mouth rim, and a high base that is comfortable for the fingers.
The main plate has a large wide surface with a soft angled rim, ideal for lunch and dinner meals.
The bottom of the bowl is engraved with a motif of the Japanese greeting "Itadakimasu" or "Gochisosama" used before and after a meal to express gratitude to the food and the person who prepared the dish.
WDH works with Japanese craftsman with a focus on continuing traditional skills and high quality manufacturing of unique pieces made with natural materials that are hoped to be enjoyed throughout time.
Each piece is truly unique and will be reflected in the difference of wood grain. Please note the colour can shift from black to dark brown due to the natural tones of wood underneath the natural lacquer coating.
