Product Description

These handcrafted Japanese bowls are wide and deep and the perfect size for serving main dishes and Japanese sweets.

The bowls exterior meets the hand with tactility. The main body is left unglazed – celebrating the clays natural beauty. A mixture of this unglazed clay body sits beside a candy glaze rim, providing an interesting contrast. As every bowl is handcrafted, each is unique and will differ slightly from piece to piece.

Hechimon is a collection of Japanese ceramics by a third-generation Shigaraki-yaki maker, Marui Seito.

Shigaraki is located in Koka City, Shiga Prefecture, and is recognised as playing a significant part in the long history of Japanese ceramics. It is included as one of Japan's six old kilns – being said to have a history of 1260 years. In 1976 Shigaraki-yaki (Shigaraki ware) was designated as a traditional craft in Japan.

About: Hechimon

Hechimon is a collection of Japanese ceramics by a third-generation Shigaraki-yaki maker, Marui Seito. This name translates as “strange things” or “unusual things”. The ceramic collection embraces varying expressions from the vessels themselves. Like holding their own personalities due to materials used, kiln firings, and the craftsman hand. All of these processes and relationships slightly shift each piece – no two pieces will be identical in nature.
