A Nippon Kodo Jinkoh Juzan aloeswood incense gift set, presented in a paulownia wood box with a ceramic incense holder. Aloeswood is the central note, blended generously with sandalwood and herbal medicines for an elegant, tasteful fragrance; as it burns, a refined, subtle and profound scent rises.

Aloeswood (jinkoh) is a highly valued scented wood, described in old texts of Koh-Do, the way of incense appreciation, as graceful in nature and willowy in character, with a pinch of bitterness. Nippon Kodo's incense tradition began in 1575 and can be traced back to Jyuemon Takai, better known as Koju, the principal provider of rare and exquisite aromas to the Emperor of Japan and his court.

Nippon Kodo's devotion to making fine Japanese Incense follows a long and honoured tradition that started in 1575. This spans over 400 years ago, and can be traced back to Jyuemon Takai, better known as Koju. He was a skilled artisan in the art and the principal provider of precious rare and exquisite aromas to the Emperor of Japan and his court. Many of those pleasing and enduring high-quality Japanese Incense fragrances, which the company continues to produce to this day, are based on the original formulas created by Koju and later by Yujiro Kito.
