Nippon Kodo Gozan Koh (Five Mountains) granulated incense, made from raw ingredients including sandalwood, aloeswood and star anise. Sprinkle a pinch or two of the chipped mixture onto lit charcoal set in a vessel of ash.

Nippon Kodo's incense tradition began in 1575 and can be traced back to Jyuemon Takai, better known as Koju, the principal provider of rare and exquisite aromas to the Emperor of Japan and his court. Many of the fragrances it still makes today are based on original formulas by Koju, and later by Yujiro Kito, hailed as a genius of fragrance in the Meiji era.

Pairs well with Nippon Kodo's Incense Charcoal or Tandon Charcoal, and our Kousaido Incense Censer Ash (sold separately).
