Product Description
A bathroom wash bowl handcrafted in Japan using Hiba wood. Hiba wood is highly resistant to humidity, and has anti-bacterial quailities – making it ideal to use in moist environments and perfect for bathroom use. This type of wash bowl is traditionally used to wash oneself on a small stool before entering hot springs, onsens, and bathtubs. Simply fill the wash bowl with water and pour over yourself before entering the bathtub.
Hiba is a member of the cypress family that is native to Japan. Historically, Hiba wood was used in building Japanese shrines, Buddhist temples and castles. This is due to its corrosion-inhibiting composition as well as its industrial-strength. Hiba is known as one of the three largest trees in Japan alongside hinoki and sugi. It's considered a prized building material for pagodas and shrines because it is humid resistant and naturally resists rot and mold.
Pair these washbowls with the Hinoki Bath Stool and handwoven Linen Wash Cloths for the ultimate bathroom experience (sold separately).
