A set of traditional antique Japanese bizen ware dishes - a type of pottery recognised for its beauty and durability. Featuring an irregular form and wood fired finish, these petite dishes are perfect for serving pickles and small sides.
The exterior and interior of the ceramic has a smooth tactile finish due to it being wood fired and left unglazed – honouring the clays natural beauty.
Bizen ware or Bizen-yaki (備前焼) is a type of Japanese pottery traditionally from Bizen province, presently a part of Okayama prefecture. Bizen is characterized by significant hardness due to high temperature kiln firing. Common earthen-like, reddish-brown colours appear due to the absence of glaze and organic markings resulting from the wood firing process.
