A textured, unglazed wood-fired finish adds a touch of tradition and elegance to any dining experience.

Yasushi Nakai is a contemporary Japanese artisan specialising in Bizen ware. Finding a balance between traditional forms and functional daily objects, Nakai is known for works that centre on the raw, earthy qualities of local clay alongside natural kiln transformation. Bizen ware (Bizen-yaki, 備前焼) is one of Japan's oldest forms of pottery, traditionally from Bizen province in what is now Okayama Prefecture. High-temperature wood firing makes it exceptionally hard, and without glaze the clay takes on earthy, reddish-brown tones and organic markings from the kiln.

Also see the Mugenan Bizen Ware Sake Gift Set and Bizen Ware Sake Cup, and the Hechimon Kohiki Sake Cup.

Details

Maker: Yasushi Nakai

Material: wood-fired unglazed clay (Bizen ware)

Contents: 1 sake bottle and 2 sake cups in a signed wooden box

Measurements: bottle approx. 8.5 × 14.5 cm high (holds 350ml); cups approx. 6 × 6 cm high (holds 70ml)

As each piece is handmade and wood-fired, the wood ash markings and colouring differ on each piece and from the set photographed

Made in Okayama, Japan

Explore more Japanese pottery.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0102/0175/9810/files/Yasushi-nakai-biizen-ware-sake-gift-set.webp?v=1792372987
