Rice Straw Decoration I
Rice straw decorations are handcrafted one by one by Japanese artisans in Kurihara City, Miyagi Prefecture. In this part of Japan rice is grown, and after these initial processes the rice straw is harvested and twisted by hand to make these decorations. They can be hung on interior doors and walls in places around the home.
Shimenawa (sacred ropes) have been popular in Japan since ancient times. Particularly they have been used in shinto shrines and homes.
