The Suribachi & Surikogi is often regarded as an essential to any Japanese kitchen. The Japanese mortar and pestle allows for a greater degree of control when bruising, crushing, grinding or pounding ingredients

This ceramic Mino ware mortar or grinding bowl is made in Toki city, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. The unglazed interior has been hand combed to create a variety of textured patterns to help effectively grind ingredients.

The wooden pestle is handcrafted in Japan from Kiso Hinoki wood, which is renowned for its strength and subtle fragrance. A linen rope tie makes for easy hanging and storage.
