Handwoven Mugi Silk Shawl
The One-Off & Limited Pieces collection celebrates creativity, spontaneity, and individuality, and upholds values of sustainability and minimal waste. Smaller quantities of materials (such as leftover yarns) are used to bring these special pieces to life.
This handwoven shawl is lightweight and slightly sheer, and perfect for cooler summer days. Mugi silk yarns have been hand-spun by artisans in India before making their way to Australia, where they are warped onto the loom. Next, the fabric is handwoven thread by thread over many hours. Then, it's cut off the loom and soaked in warm water to bring the weave to life.
Each scarf is warped onto the loom exactly to pattern, ensuring no wastage and no cutting. Both ends are hem-stitched to fix the threads in place.
