Product description

We've put together a small range of exclusive Japanese candle gift sets. Each gift set brings together products from artisan Japanese candle makers to give you everything you need to take part in the ritual of burning candles. Spoil someone special, or yourself today.

Daiyo was established in the Takashima county of Shiga Prefecture in 1914. The artisanship has been passed down across four generations, polished and refined as time passes. These Japanese candles are 100% made from natural plant wax. Daiyo's principles of making candles from the blessings of nature have remained unchanged since their establishment more than a century ago.

These candles are individually and meticulously handcrafted with 100% natural and local sumac wax (haze) by Japanese artisans. Only 10 craftsman are left in the world that produce this traditional type of candle. Each wick is hand rolled using washi paper, rush weeds and silk fibres. It begins with the washi paper being rolled and wrapped with rush weeds, silk fibres are then used to hold the rush in place.

These petite coasters are the perfect size to be used as a base for your special candles, etc. The fabric colour is achieved by the yarns being naturally dyed with Japanese indigo (aizome). These dye processes are traditional Japanese dyeing techniques. The result is a beautiful and sophisticated hue.

A naturally occurring crinkle is present within these coasters due to high twist yarns. No ironing needed.

For some seventy years, Takada's artisans have been handcrafting tawashi one at a time, using only the finest, carefully-selected materials harvested from trees cultivated in Wakayama Prefecture, southwestern Japan. Each palm brush is made using waterproof yet gentle windmill palm fibers (shuro). This small sasara tawashi is ideal for brushing leftover ash off the koma candle stand after a candle has finished burning.
