Ash Ikebana Vase
This vase has been made with various handbuilding processes, these ancient techniques have been used for many of thousands of years. This approach to making pottery allows it to be created without pottery wheels, using only the makers hands and simple tools. I gravitate towards this way of making as it shows evidence of the human hand – the human being behind the work.
Each piece is individually formed by hand, then allowing time to dry for a period of 2-4 weeks before the kiln firing process.
Each piece may differ slightly in size and shape, as they are each hand-built – holding individual uniqueness. They may also differ in colour due to the different kiln firings. Colours may range from charcoal to black.
Handbuilt in Perth, Australia.
Unglazed stoneware clay.
