Handwoven Kudzu Knot Bag - Small

Regular price $80.00 $0.00

Product Description

Each bag is individually hand-woven by Khmu female artisans in northern Laos. It's made of kudzu fibre, which is a vine that grows in the nearby jungles of northern Laos, traditionally used for making baskets and bags. Kudzu's flexibility and durability makes it ideal for weaving.

Kudzu grows without irrigation, chemicals or cultivation. To extract the fibre artisans scrape the inner bark between the core and outside bark. Then it must be dried, pounded and split into thin strips. Next it is twisted and spun by hand, and then knotted into bags.

The process of transforming kudzu vines into this bags takes around two weeks. Each bag is unique as they are each crafted entirely by hand.
